A leather case designed specially for mobile phone must meet not one or two but three key requirements before it can be deemed a good leather case and if the price is a bargain, that would be a great buy indeed.
Firstly, it must look good, secondly, it must protect the phone effectively and thirdly, it needs to be durable.
I recently bought the Krusell Hector 5XL Leather Case for my HTC One (M8) as it was the only expensive looking leather case that would fit nicely my Android phone with its large 5 inch screen and its funky flip cover. It is also a perfect fit for the new Apple iPhone 6 Plus. My attention was immediately drawn to its sleek, shiny and smooth black leather exterior that oozes style and class when I saw it for the very first time online. I especially liked it’s white thread stitching as it contrasted nicely with the black leather.
So without much further thought, I placed an order for it online with one of the online merchants that specializes in these types of accessories. The Krusell Hector Leather Case took slightly over a week to arrive in my letterbox, it came in a small box which protected it really well. When I unwrapped it, the first thing that struck me was that rich smell of quality leather permeating my room which was a delightful scent to a leather freak like me.
There were 2 double belt loops in place of a belt clip which is usually a good thing as belt clips are notoriously unreliable and many a nice phone have met an untimely demise at the hands of poorly designed belt clips. The magnetic flip cover open and shut very smoothly and the magnet is strong enough to keep the leather case cover securely shut at all times. The interior is lined with a soft and smooth suede like leather lining which enable your phone to slide in and out easily and also gives you the added reassurance that your phone surface will be free from accidental scratches getting in and out of the leather case.
That very day itself, I decided to use it the same day. I had no difficulty in getting my one and a half inch wide full grain leather belt through the double loops and the leather case fitted nicely round my waist. It was such a nice tight fit that I subconsciously and rather quickly starting using the leather case as a mini arm rest of sorts almost naturally without realizing there would be consequences later on. More about that later, but I must add that I accidentally dropped the leather case with my phone in it on the second day whilst clearing my desk. I watch it land on the floor with a soft thud but I must say the leather case seemed to absorb the impact pretty well as I observed it appearing to compress slightly to protect the phone upon impact the ground.
So, I would not hesitate to state that the Krusell Hector Leather Case has met the first key requirement of having good looks and also the second requirement that it must protect its occupant effectively. Then comes the third requirement, it needs to be durable but has this requirement been met too?
Now, on the 12th day or thereabouts of using the leather case, the left belt loop suddenly gave way at the bottom stitch as shown in this photo here. Initially, I was rather surprised and dismayed but then recalled I had developed a habit of resting my wrist and lower arm on the leather case the last couple of days and it suddenly dawn on me that the constant weight on the leather case put an unnecessary strain on the belt loop which finally gave way.
Hence, taking this into account, I do have mixed feelings about whether the third requirement of durability has been met as I had somehow through my unorthodox behavior accelerated its fair wear and tear so I am unable to give you a definite answer on this criteria.
Having said that, I am of the opinion that the Krusell Hector Leather Case is still well worth its under $30 price tag and there are many other glowing reviews by others that are far more positive than mine, so you may want to search for other reviews on it to learn more.
